Every Hotel Indigo hotel is uniquely designed to reflect the culture, character and history of the surrounding neighborhood. This hotel will pay homage to how time has shaped the precision work done in the area, from its roots in engraving, jewelry and watchmaking to the meticulous trading on today's Wall Street.
"The financial district has long been known for its commercial success, but it's recently experienced significant cultural and residential growth, and we are so proud that we're becoming part of the neighborhood," said Mary Winslow, director, Hotel Indigo Brand Management. "Everyone knows that on Wall Street, time is money, but a lot of people may not know about the area's history in clock and watchmaking. We can't wait to show our guests how special this neighborhood really is."
The Hotel Indigo NYC Financial District hotel, set to open in 2016, will be located on one of New York's oldest streets, Maiden Lane, whose history includes the race to build the world's most legendary watch, which was heavily reliant on the street's many skilled watchmakers. Maiden Lane is also known for having a clock embedded in the sidewalk in front of William Barthman Jeweler, to this day the only jewelry store in the area. Over time, the area has evolved into the global financial epicenter humming today.
The 76,500 square-foot new-build hotel will be a block from the new One World Trade Center, designated as the tallest building in America and expected to be a significant anchor for Lower Manhattan's business and leisure visitors. The hotel's ownership is investing $32 million in the 25-story, 190-room hotel, situated on Maiden Lane between Nassau Street and Broadway. The hotel will offer a unique spin on the idea of time, from the food and drinks served in the restaurant and bar to the art, photography and architecture that will be incorporated into the hotel's design.
The hotel will have approximately 1,450 square-feet of meeting space, a fitness center and a rooftop lounge. Guestrooms will feature plush bedding, hard-surface flooring with area rugs, and spa-inspired bathrooms. Guests and locals will enjoy a great neighborhood bar with seasonal and locally sourced food in a stylish environment. The hotel will feature the brand's newNeighborhood Guide, an innovative touchscreen display that connects guests to each other, the local neighborhood and to Hotel Indigo locations around the world. Hotel team members, many of whom are locals themselves, will share their favorite hidden gems with guests looking to explore and discover the neighborhood.
This will be the fifth Hotel Indigo hotel in New York City. The brand currently has locations in Brooklyn and Chelsea, with two additional properties planned for the Lower East Side and Flushing, Queens.
"We are also developing the Hotel Indigo project in Flushing, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with IHG," said Thomas Wang, 10-12 MLane, LLC. "We appreciate the opportunity that only the Hotel Indigo brand provides, to bring each of these distinct neighborhoods to life, along with the consistencies of an established global brand."
In addition to this signing, the Hotel Indigo brand recently announced new properties set to open in three major European cities, Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg Tchaikovskogo, Hotel Indigo Madrid Gran Via and Hotel Indigo Rome St. George.
The Hotel Indigo NYC Financial District, owned by 10-12 MLane, LLC, will be franchised by an affiliate of IHG.
