Cornerstone Hospitality;
In one of the most beautiful and scenic areas of Southwest Virginia, a 1927 historic hotel is in the process of having new life breathed into it. The former George Wythe Hotel is being renovated and put back into use as a boutique hotel after more than 40 years of being used as a bank. And, paying homage to the history of Wytheville, it is getting a brand new name to go along with its creative interior design.

The Bolling Wilson Hotel LogoThe former George Wythe Hotel will open under its new name the Bolling Wilson Hotel in the fall of 2014. “The Town of Wytheville is the birthplace and childhood home of Edith Bolling Wilson, the wife and First Lady of President Woodrow Wilson.  She was such a fun and interesting woman in our history; one known for her love of orchids, fondness of good bourbon and her love-hate relationship with canaries,” said owner Bill Smith.  “The First Lady was a ‘First’ in many other ways during the Wilson Presidency. We’re going to tell her incredibly important and somewhat controversial story in a modern and fun way through the hotel experience.”

The hotel will feature 30 luxurious guest rooms; event space to accommodate 150; a soon to be named restaurant featuring New Southern cuisine; outdoor dining; and a rooftop patio that provides a 360 degree view of the mountains. “We want to make learning about the history of this area interesting and fun! Travelers are looking for opportunities to enjoy unique lodging experiences and this will be one of them.” said Kimberly Christner of Cornerstone Hospitality. “Here sits this beautiful building in this historic downtown walking district with its locally owned shops and restaurants at the junction of I-81 and I-77. It’s the perfect location for a great little boutique hotel. We have so many interesting and fun things planned that will share the history of this area with an authentic yet modern twist.” They aren’t sharing any of the mystery just yet that will be a fun surprise for their guests.

The Bolling Wilson Hotel is located at 170 East Main Street in Wytheville, Virginia. The hotel will be a member of the Ascend Collection by Choice Hotels® and is listed as a contributing building on the National Register of Historic Places.  The property is being developed by Smith Enterprises, Inc. Cornerstone Hospitality, LLC, a full-service hotel management firm located in Williamsburg, Virginia will assist in the development and manage the property operations.

Cornerstone Hospitality’s other boutique hotel projects include the Craddock Terry Hotel, Lynchburg, Virginia; The Sessions Hotel, Bristol, Virginia; The John Randolph Hotel, South Boston, Virginia; as well as other developments in Gastonia, NC and Durham, NC.
