The Tour De France Drives Hotel Bookings on Both Sides of the English Channel

The race kicks off in the UK this year and passes through London, for the first time since 2007, on 7 July 2014. With spectators enjoying the chance to take in iconic landmarks as the cyclists race past the Olympic Park and culminate at Buckingham Palace, hoteliers are seeing strong committed occupancy with over a third of rooms (34.3 per cent) booked for the night before.

The race kicks off in the UK this year and passes through London, for the first time since 2007, on 7 July 2014. With spectators enjoying the chance to take in iconic landmarks as the cyclists race past the Olympic Park and culminate at Buckingham Palace, hoteliers are seeing strong committed occupancy with over a third of rooms (34.3 per cent) booked for the night before.

Parisian hoteliers are also reaping the benefits of the legendary race. The French capital hosts the final leg and finishing line for this year’s Tour de France and will see the athletes passing the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe as well as the traditional climb up the Champs- Élysées. The night before the cyclists reach Paris (26 July 2014), hoteliers are seeing a committed occupancy of almost half (44.5 per cent) at this point in the booking window, which is an increase of 16.7 per cent compared to when the race passed through the city in 2013.

The power of the finishing line is evident in the group bookings figures with committed occupancy showing a staggering increase of 62.6 per cent the night before the final sprint.

Information is based on data collated by TravelClick on 27 April 2014 from 113 London hotels with a combined capacity of 26,932 and 33 Paris hotels with a combined capacity of 7,905.
