  • Mandalay Style Becomes a Fixture in the Next Evolution of Las Vegas Luxury

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mandalay Resort Group, a leading owner and operator of world-class entertainment destinations, announced today the name of its newest resort hotel product set to open in December 2003, on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. The new all-suite hotel attached to the company's signature Four Diamond Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is being debuted as "THEhotel at Mandalay Bay."

"Intimate, comfortable, cosmopolitan. These are, we admit, new words to associate with Las Vegas, but we've made them work in a wonderful way," said Glenn Schaeffer, President of Mandalay Resort Group (NYSE:MBG) . "Our new all-suite hotel is perfectly configured for both the business traveler, as well as the person looking to leave business behind."

With the addition of THEhotel, Mandalay Bay will remain one property but will offer two completely different resort experiences. Incorporated into the Mandalay Bay Resort, yet completely self-sufficient, THEhotel at Mandalay Bay will offer all the perks and amenities upscale travelers crave -- tasteful decor and hip atmosphere, separate gym and spa facilities, upscale dining options, and large guest rooms suitable for business or entertaining. At 750 square-feet, THEhotel's one-bedroom suite will be the largest standard hotel room in Las Vegas.

THEhotel also adds a new depth and dimension to the already popular Mandalay Bay Resort. While Mandalay Bay represents an idyllic tropical paradise, THEhotel embraces modern architecture, contemporary design and comfortable surroundings. What is perhaps most unexpected is that in creating the decor of the new hotel, the tenets of Mandalay Bay decor were left behind in exchange for a new look and feel of luxury.

Every room in THEhotel is a one- or two-bedroom suite. Designed for both the business and the leisure traveler, this room is a true suite with a separate sleeping and sitting rooms, suitable for meetings, strategy sessions and hospitality. Sitting rooms feature stylish furnishings, a plasma screen television, and a desk with high-speed internet connection, fax and printer.

A breakdown of the new 43-story tower, floor by floor:

FIRST FLOOR -- Guests are greeted by the expansive 60,000 square-foot grand lobby, featuring 9 check-in desks, separate VIP check-in, two restaurant and show reservation desks, bell desk and business center. An elegant lobby bar will feature a billiards lounge. Also located in the lobby area will be a sundries store, a 24-hour restaurant and a coffee bar. The lobby connects to Mandalay Bay via a grand promenade which leads into the existing casino, between the Mandalay Bay Theatre and the Race & Sports Book.

SECOND FLOOR -- Features a full-service 13,000 square-foot spa and gym. Spa treatments and atmosphere will place an emphasis on the healing powers of water. Exercise facilities will offer the most state-of-the- art workout equipment available.

FLOORS 3 through 6 -- Feature 80 "Business Suites" located adjacent to 5,000 square-feet of conference and function space. These suites have the same layout and design of the one-bedroom suites, but allow business travelers the convenience of having their "home base" located on the same floor as their business meeting.

FLOORS 7 through 38 -- Include a total of 994 suites, all with separate living and sleeping areas. Suites include tile entry, wet bar, 42" plasma screen television, and tastefully furnished sitting area. High- speed internet connections and a fax/printer are in every room.

FLOORS 39 through 41 -- Feature 48 suites ranging from 1,500 to 2,600 square-feet, offering more bedrooms, more space for VIP gatherings, and more accoutrements.

THEhotel will be completed in Fall 2003. Reservations are being accepted at (877) 632-7000.

Additional personnel for THEhotel will add approximately 700 new employees to the Mandalay Bay staff, primarily in hotel operations and food and beverage departments.

The addition of 1,122 rooms brings the total Mandalay Bay room inventory from 3,644 to 4,766. The resort will rise from the sixth largest to the second largest hotel in North America. It also increases the number of Las Vegas Strip hotel rooms controlled by Mandalay Resort Group to a total of 19,707.

THEhotel will be the third major opening for Mandalay Resort Group in 2003. In January, the corporation debuted a new 1.8 million square-foot Mandalay Bay Convention Center. October marks the opening of the 100,000 square Mandalay Place retail center which features 41 shops and restaurants on a skybridge between two of the company's Las Vegas Strip resort casinos.
