ANNAPOLIS, Md., Oct. 16 For women who want to travel but don't have a travel partner, weekend group trips offer a way to try solo travel before committing to a longer trip. According to a recent study sponsored by the travel company "Women Traveling Together," of first time travelers, 60% said they were taking a weekend tour to test the waters of group travel.
Group travel offers the benefits of safety in numbers and built-in companions to pal around with. Group tours take the guesswork out of selecting the best activities and restaurants, and that expertise is even more important when time is limited, as it is on weekend trips. Weekend trips cost less than longer vacations, and by sharing a room with someone else in the group, travelers can save even more money. If a traveler finds she doesn't like the experience, she's not stuck somewhere for an entire week. Women who travel alone seek out all-women groups such as Women Traveling Together for these very reasons.
Debra Asberry, president of Women Traveling Together, says, "We meet so many women who are traveling for the first time and specifically say they selected a long weekend so they could check out the travel experience and the company. Women are naturally hesitant that first time with all the 'what if' questions. But once they've done a weekend trip, they come back and do longer trips. After that first trip, they really spread their wings."
