The Greater New York Chapter of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has awarded the Empire State Building Experience with the 21st Annual Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award and named the 2014 honorees for the Annual Hospitality Awards of Excellence.
The award was accepted by Jean-Yves Ghazi (pictured on right), director of the Empire State Building Observatory and presented by Louis Zameryka (pictured on left), Immediate Past President of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter on behalf of the Past Presidents’ Council.
The awards were presented by the Past Presidents’ Council of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter to recognize and honor individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the tourism industry in New York City. The presentations took place on June 16 at the annual black-tie dinner/dance at the JW Marriott Essex House on Central Park South.
For 2014, the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter named five individuals honored for their outstanding work and dedication to the hospitality industry and the sales and marketing profession. The following honorees were named for 2014:
- General Manager of the Year: Holly Breuche, General Manager of The Quin. Holly, a former sales and marketing manager and Past President of the Greater New York Chapter of HSMAI attributed her success to her sales and marketing training noting: “Very much who I am today is what I learned from my involvement with HSMAI.” (Pictured below: Holly Breuche, General Manager of the Year with Lou Zameryka, Immediate Past President of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter)
- Revenue Management Executive of the Year: Dominik Gomez Muschenborn, Corporate Director Revenue Management, Gansevoort Hotel Group.
- Sales Executive of the Year: David Shenman, Director of Sales, The New York Palace.
- Marketing Executive of the Year: Cathy Pascale, Director of Sales & Marketing, Holiday Inn Manhattan View.
- Special President’s Award for Outstanding Service: Thomas J. Travers, General Manager of the Hotel Beacon, Past President of HSMAI Greater New York Chapter and current Finance Chairman. Selected by the Past Presidents’ Council of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter, in recognition of their significant contributions to the tourism industry in New York City, the Empire State Building Experience was honored as the 21st recipient of the Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award.
The Empire State Building has been the cornerstone of the world’s most recognizable skyline for 83 years and is consistently one of New York City’s top tourist attractions. The Empire State Building Experience hosts more than four million visitors a year at its 86th and 102 floor Observatories which are open 365 days a year providing 360 degree views of Manhattan and the surrounding New York area.
"The impact of the Empire State Building Experience on our hospitality industry is intrinsic to our annual Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award as its dedicated team contributes to tourism in our great city each and every day – 365 days a year," said Zameryka.
Frank W. Berkman, CHME, was a former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of HSMAI for 16 years. This award was created in 1994 by the Past President’s Council of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter and was named after Berkman because of his dedication to building HSMAI into the highly-influential international hospitality industry organization it is today.
