International Hospitality Enterprises (IHE), a leader in the development and management of award-winning hotels in Puerto Rico, has named Nicholas Gold General Manager of the highly anticipated Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in the chic Condado District of San Juan. The December 1, 2014 opening of the hotel's second phase will reveal luxury accommodations, a spa sanctuary with Puerto Rico's first Hammam, two pools and a second restaurant.
In his new role, Gold is tasked with managing the property's opening and overseeing all hotel operations, including staff management, recruitment and development, training, scheduling and preparation of annual budgets, communication with guests and outside vendors, and building community relations.
"Nicholas's knowledge of the tourism industry in Puerto Rico and wealth of experience in the luxury market make him the perfect candidate to manage the Condado Vanderbilt and position it internationally," said José M. Suárez, president of International Hospitality Enterprises. "Additionally, his spa background at Amangiri Resort and Mii amo Spa will prove invaluable as we prepare to launch Puerto Rico's first Hammam at our property."
"It fills me with great pleasure to return to Puerto Rico to join the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel team and ensure the property returns to its status as the social epicenter of San Juan," Gold said.
A thirty year veteran in the hospitality industry, Gold started his career in his native London as a restaurant manager more than two decades ago before moving on to hotels in Europe, Florida, and even Puerto Rico where he worked for Williams Hospitality at Hotel El Conquistador and Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino. Since then, Gold has managed some of the most prestigious hospitality properties in the U.S. including Enchanment Resort & Mii amo Spa in Sedona, Arizona, Tanque Verde Ranch in Tuscon, and, most recently Amangiri Resort in Canyon Point, Southern Utah.
Gold holds a diploma in Hotel Administration from Westminster College in London.
The second phase of the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel will open December 1, 2014. The next stage of the hotel's highly-anticipated rebirth will unveil 319 guest rooms, a spa sanctuary with Puerto Rico's first Hammam, two pools, including an infinity pool, and a secondary international restaurant helmed by renowned Chef Juan Jose Cuevas. Originally built in 1919 by Frederick William Vanderbilt, the secondary phase of the historical Grande Dame's opening will signify a return to the Roaring 20's luxury that the island had once been home to. The hotel will offer guests a luxurious environment in an exclusive setting, filled with history and the nostalgia of past eras when the hotel was the social epicenter of San Juan. Condado Vanderbilt Hotel is a member of the Preferred Hotel Group.
