  • Hotel News Resource The 2003 ceremony took place Monday, November 3 at the Hilton Paris Tour Eiffel, Mr François Loos, minister for foreign commerce attending. He was among over 500 key executives and suppliers of the hotel industy. The ceremony was presided over by Jean-Gabriel Pérès, Chief Executive Officer de Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.

    This major event in the agenda of the international hotel industry is an opportunity to put forward the most innovative initiatives and the most successful achievements of large hotel chains as well as from individual hotels also imaginative.

    In the middle of the international tourism crisis, far beyond the competition spirit, the Worldwide Hospitality Awards work as talent scouts, revealing new ideas, new concepts to the whole profession. They express the reactivity of an industry very much affected by the economic trends but with a strong capacity to adjust to a moving environment.

    The winners of Worldwide Hospitality Awards 2003 are:
    1 - Award for Best Advertising Concept

    2 - Award for Best Hotel Guide
    Winner: Hôtels & Préférence

    3 - Award for Best Loyalty Programme or Marketing Partnership
    Winner: Partenaire Prestige Plaza Athénée Paris (Dorchester Group)
    Finalists : Choice Hotels Europe and Preferred Guest Programme de Red Roof Inns (USA)

    4 - Award for Best Quality Insurance Measures
    Winner: Ibis hotels chain
    Finalists : Disneyland Resort Paris and Méridien Montparnasse

    5 - Award for best innovation in terms of Human Ressources Policy
    Winner: Investors in People d'InterContinental Hotels
    Finalists : Corporate University Domaine de Bélesbat (Essonne) and Mentor/Mentee Porgramme Radisson SAS Hotels

    6 - Award for Best Training Programme
    Joint winners: Corporate Training Programme Hyatt International

    10. Award for Best Chain Hotel Restaurant Chef
    Winner: Yves Mattagne, Radisson SAS de Bruxelles
    Finalists : Heinz Beck, Cavalieri Hilton Roma and Eric Fréchon, Bristol de Paris

    11. Award for Best Midscale Hotel Manager
    Winner : Michel Réginot, Holiday Inn Garden Court de Lyon-Villeurbanne
    Finalists: Antoine de la Fouchardière, Comfort Inn de Lille and Kari Kurppa, Scandic Hotel Helsinki, Finland

    12. Award for Best Upscale Hotel Manager
    Winner: Pierre Ferchaud, Le Bristol Paris
    Finalists : Olivier Chavy, Hilton Arc de Triomphe Paris and Michel Galopin, Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat

    The Jury's Grand Prix has been awarded to the Accor Group in recognition of its ability to face the different crisis that hit the tourist sector and its capacity to maintain its development. Based on the same criteria the jury has chosen two other finalists, which were very close in the final voting: Hilton International et Rezidor SAS Hospitality.

    (1) The Worldwide Hospitality Awards celebrate their fourth edition. They have been created by MKG Group, European leading marketing research & consultant company to recognize innovation and exemplarity within the hotel international industry.
    The rules and the selection process of the Awards are determined and controlled by an Advisory Board, gathering twenty executives, leaders of the hotel business and qualified personalities. The 2003 Board was presided over by Mr Jürgen Fischer, President of Hilton International Europe & Africa, and President of Scandic Hotels.
    The international jury, representative of 7 different nationalities, met under the presidency of Mr Emmanuel Rodocanachi, Senior European Corporate Advisor - Citigroup. It was organized from three colleges (Communication, tourism industry, and international travellers). For each category, the jury has selected three finalists, among which the winner.
