Marriott International To Grow Its Presence In Hawaii With A Courtyard Hotel On Kauai In 2004 |

The Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) presence in Hawaii will grow in 2004 with the addition of a moderately-priced Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Kauai as a result of a franchise agreement with the Presidio Hotel Group, LLC., a northern California-based firm that specializes in developing and managing full-service and focused-service hotel properties in the United States. |
The Presidio Hotel Group recently acquired the 312-room Coconut Beach Resort at Waipouli, Kauai. Value of the transaction was not disclosed. Following completion of a multi-phased renovation program that will be conducted while the property remains open; the hotel will be rebranded the Courtyard by Marriott Kauai. When opened, it will be the 14th property on four islands in Marriott¡¦s portfolio in Hawaii.
¡§We want to be where our customers want us to be and they are telling us they love Kauai,¡¨ said Ed Fuller, president and managing director for international lodging at Marriott. ¡§The 363-room Kauai Marriott and Beach Club at Kalapaki Beach is doing extremely well and we have wanted to strengthen our presence on the Island.¡¨
The Courtyard by Marriott Kauai will be located at on 10.5 acres of Waipouli Beach amidst historic Coconut Grove. Just 10 minutes away from Lihue Airport, the Courtyard by Marriott Kauai is centrally located within easy walking distance of three shopping villages, including the Coconut Plantation Marketplace, Kauai Village and Waipouli Shopping Center. The oceanfront resort is central to numerous activities and attractions including the popular Waimea Canyon, Kokee State Park, Fern Grotto, Wailua River, Opaekaa Falls and many stunning beaches.
¡§This property is the ideal acquisition for us since Kauai is seen as one of the top travel destinations by tourists located throughout the world,¡¨ said Edward De Lorme, principal and managing director for Presidio Hotel Group. ¡§After our extensive renovation effort on the property, this resort will become a first-class hotel consistent with Marriott standards.¡¨
Courtyard by Marriott hotels are aimed at travelers who want moderately-priced accommodations offering consistent quality. Recently, the brand celebrated its 600th opening which places it among the world¡¦s largest hotel brands.
For dining and entertainment, the Courtyard by Marriott Kauai will have a restaurant, lounge, luau grounds for live Hawaiian entertainment and dining and a coffee and juice bar. Recreational amenities will include an outdoor swimming pool, whirlpool, shuffle board and beach volleyball.
Other amenities will include beachfront massages, a gift/souvenir shop, a 24-hour business center, wireless internet access and pay-per-view television.
For social events and conferences, the Courtyard by Marriott Kauai will have 5,000 square feet of renovated meeting and banquet space.
The Courtyard by Marriott Kauai will add to the array of Marriott lodging brands in Hawaii. The Marriott portfolio in Hawaii currently has 5,185 rooms over the four major islands under a number of lodging brands that span from luxury to moderately-priced.
