Onity’s New Guestroom Thermostat Offers Easier Path to Energy Savings |
|
New SensorStat® DDC I-F automatically reduces energy usage, offers potential savings of 35 percent |
ATLANTA — DEC. 8, 2003 — At a time when energy prices are soaring and hotel occupancy and revenue per available room (RevPAR) levels remain flat, Onity / Senercomm® is offering another way for hoteliers to save on costs while enhancing guest satisfaction.
As the hotel industry’s leading provider of durable, state-of-the-art energy-management systems and solutions, Onity / Senercomm® offers the SensorStat® line of products, specifically designed to electronically control HVAC systems, improve guest comfort, and increase energy efficiency via setback strategies based on guestroom occupancy. That is, when the guest is in the room, HVAC levels remain at the guest’s specified comfort levels; when the guest leaves, the SensorStat® devices automatically set the room temperature to pre-specified levels that optimize savings on energy—and, thereby, costs.
“The SensorStat® DDC I-F, the newest offering from Onity / Senercomm® offers the advantage of being able to reduce energy usage by 25 to 35 percent,” said Mark Keating, Onity / Senercomm® Director of Research and Development. “The DDC I-F adds ‘flashable’ E-EPROM chip firmware that can easily be field modified or upgraded to newer versions of firmware in the future. This added feature gives hotels the piece of mind that they are investing in technology that has a sustained lifetime and can be quickly and easily upgraded as new control methodologies hit the market.”
One of the added benefits of the SensorStat® DDC I-F is the on-board self-diagnostic LED indicators, which make it easy to ensure the unit is working correctly without the need for additional diagnostic tools. The new programming DIP switches make programming the unit simpler, and again eliminate the need for separate programming tools. An optional Real Time Clock (RTC) module is also available. “The RTC module eliminates the need for entry-door detector switches, thereby reducing costs and streamlining the installation process,” Keating said.
The new SensorStat® DDC I-F offers hoteliers a wide range of additional energy-management advantages and features, including:
• Average reduction in energy use of 25-35 percent
• Attractive and user-friendly design
• Reduced maintenance costs and extended HVAC equipment life
• Selectable Fahrenheit or Celsius display
While guests are in their room, they can set their own level of climate comfort—and thus the guest-satisfaction factor is enhanced. However, when the SensorStat® DDC I-F senses the room is unoccupied, the temperature automatically levels off to a preset, more energy-efficient level. In rooms that are unsold, the SensorStat® DDC –I-F sets the temperature to an even deeper setback level. Thus, costly energy is not wasted on unoccupied rooms—and the savings go straight to the bottom line.
“Onity / Senercomm® continues to strive for product enhancements and technological advancements to maintain our product offerings at the cutting edge of energy-management solutions,” said Pascal Metivier, Onity’s Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing. “We listen to our customers' wants and needs and continue our tradition of ‘innovative thinking’ in developing new and improved products with greater return on investment. The new SensorStat® DDC I-F is just one example of how focused and dedicated we are to our research and development efforts for improving technology.”
