Special ALIS 2004 Event Help Raise Funds For Habitat For Humanity |
|
Washington, Dec. 8, 2003— A special fundraising event will be held throughout of the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS), Jan. 19–21, 2004, at The Century Plaza Hotel & Spa and the St. Regis – Los Angeles. |
During the event’s third installment, attendees can participate in a silent auction to raise monies to support Habitat for Humanity International (HHI) — the humanitarian organization that strives to eliminate poverty and homelessness across the world.
The sale features more than 50 donated items ranging from premier vacation packages to the hottest electronic products. In addition, the auction has a “Dine with a Leader” segment, which allow bids for a dinner with lodging industry leaders including Tom Corcoran, president and CEO, FelCor Lodging Trust Inc.; Laurence Geller, chairman and CEO, Strategic Hotel Capital; Fred Kleisner, chairman and CEO, Wyndham International, Inc.; Christopher Nassetta, president and CEO, Host Marriott Corporation; and Paul Whetsell, president and CEO, MeriStar Hospitality Corporation.
“At this year’s conference, packed with numerous activities, the HHI event certainly is a highlight. Not only are we pleased to raise funds while bidding on wonderful items, but we are excited as an industry to bring financial support to people all over the world who have a specific need,” said Burba Hotel Network (BHN) President and Conference Chairman Jim Burba.
Additionally, this activity allows HHI’s Habitat for Humanity West Coast Resource Center to form a lasting relationship with the lodging industry. The group assists hoteliers in removing discarded furniture, fixtures, and equipment while their properties undergo renovation. The tax-deductible materials are then resold through the organization to help fund additional homes.
Co-hosted by BHN and the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the two and a half day event is designed to address the unique needs of the hospitality-investment community and provide a meeting and networking place for hotel executives, investors, lenders, developers, and professional financial advisors. ALIS features an extensive array of seminars hosted by leading experts and investors discussing important trends and identifying new opportunities.
Additional proceeds from ALIS benefit the educational, research, and training missions of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation, AH&LA’s not-for-profit affiliate.
For general ALIS event information and sponsor opportunities, contact Harriet Lewis, BHN vice president, at (949) 574-3900 or hlewis@burba.com. Also visit the ALIS Web site at www.ALISconference.com.
