Marriott on FORTUNE'S 'Best Companies to Work For" List |
|
Ranks Second Among Companies With More Than 100,000 Employees |
For the seventh consecutive year, Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has been recognized by FORTUNE magazine as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For." Marriott ranked second among companies with 100,000 or more employees, and is the only U.S.- based lodging company on the list.
FORTUNE highlighted Marriott for its career opportunities -- more than 300 managers were promoted from hourly positions in the past year. Also earning high marks were the company's community service initiatives, training programs and the average length of service of its employees.
"Marriott's inclusion in this list affirms the company's longstanding philosophy that 'if you take care of employees, they'll take care of our guests, who will return again and again.' We take great pride in our outstanding employees who deliver exceptional customer service everyday around the world," said Brendan Keegan, executive vice president, human resources, Marriott International.
FORTUNE was assisted in compiling this year's list by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco. The FORTUNE survey is employee-driven, with two-thirds of the scoring based on the answers employees provide on a survey about trust in management, pride in work and the company, and camaraderie. The remainder of the score is determined by responses to the Institute's culture audit, in which each company explains its employment philosophy and practices.
The list appears in FORTUNE's Jan. 12, 2004, issue, available on newsstands January 5, and at www.fortune.com today.
