Pegasus Introduces PegsTour™, Electronically Linking Wholesalers to Hotel Reservation Systems |
|
Pegasus Solutions Inc. [NASDAQ: PEGS] announced PegsTour, a new service which will automate bookings by wholesale travel companies and tour operators with hotel reservation systems. |
A limited release of PegsTour is now available and it will be released for general availability in late July 2004. Dallas-based Pegasus Solutions, Inc. is a leading worldwide provider of hotel reservations-related services and technology. The company is exhibiting at hall 8.1, stand 104.
PegsTour is an innovative service designed to automate bookings by wholesale and tour operators for their allocation-based hotel inventory, as well as extra-to-allocation requests and extra-inventory requests. Today, bookings from these allocations are generally arranged with hotels through faxes, e-mails or phone calls, requiring the data to be re-keyed into the hotel's reservation system. These processes are inefficient and error-prone.
PegsTour will automate key booking processes in the wholesale market in the following ways:
• PegsTour is an electronic interface for operators and their system providers, which connects them to multiple hotel central reservation systems.
• PegsTour normalizes system functionality, booking data and transaction formats through one interface environment, thereby making connectivity between very different hotel and operator technologies achievable.
• PegsTour offers real-time electronic delivery of allocation hotel reservations, automation of the request booking and extra-to-allocation booking-request processes, modifications and cancellations to a hotel's central reservation system and property management system.
PegsTour provides several benefits to hotel companies:
• Bookings from tour and wholesale operators are processed directly into their central reservation systems.
• Automating the booking process reduces the time and costs spent in reviewing and re-keying faxes and e-mails.
• The automated process reduces reservation errors, which enhances guest service.
• With PegsTour, hotels give tour and wholesale operators electronic access to hotel rates, allocations, room types, tax rates and meal/breakfast plans.
Entry into this market opens up a new revenue opportunity for Pegasus that complements its core competencies. The introduction of PegsTour marks another industry first for the company, beginning in 1989, when Pegasus introduced the industry's first switch connecting hotels and travel agents via the global distribution systems. Then in 1991, Pegasus was first to connect hotels and travel agent commissions, and in 1995, with Travelweb, Pegasus was the first to connect hotels and the Internet.
Today, Pegasus offers wholesale operators its proven capabilities in hotel reservation transaction processing and its established connections to hotel companies and their central reservation systems. For wholesale operators, pricing includes an implementation fee, but typically no transaction charges will be assessed when operators meet committed transaction volumes. PegsTour charges for hotel companies currently connected to Pegasus typically will be limited to their current transaction fees for transactions processed through Pegasus. PegsTour is currently in use by several tour operators in a limited release environment.
David Gaster, commercial director of Cresta Holidays Ltd., added: "The new cooperation with PegsTour offers us exciting opportunities to build on our well-established relationship with our hotel partners. The new service will speed up the communications with our hoteliers to enable us to present the best opportunities for our customers. We expect the automation of these processes will increase our efficiency, speed up the booking process and will lead to time and cost savings."
Heather Blaseby, vice president of international distribution at Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts, also commented: "The launch of the PegsTour service is significant to Le Meridien because it finally will automate a manual aspect of hotel booking. Additionally, cooperating with the PegsTour service is merely a continuation of our current agreement and relationship with Pegasus."
Bob Boles, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Pegasus, said: "With PegsTour, we've charged into the final frontier of electronic hotel bookings and are bringing groundbreaking automation to tour and wholesale operators in a significant way. I'm very proud to introduce PegsTour and expect it to deliver a valuable service to the market, as well as a new source of transactions for Pegasus."
