White Lodging will build the 21 story, 381 room JW Marriott Charlotte in partnership with Crescent Communities, the real estate company responsible for developing Ally Charlotte Center, a mixed use development centered around a 26-story office tower.
Located at the corner of Stonewall and College streets in uptown Charlotte's central business district, the hotel will be the first JW Marriott in North Carolina and is scheduled to open in 2021 when the full development is expected to be complete.
"The burgeoning Stonewall corridor of Charlotte is experiencing tremendous modernization and growth, and further defining itself as an economic and entertainment hub in the Queen City," said Deno Yiankes, President and CEO of Investments and Developments at White Lodging. "The addition of the JW Marriott Charlotte provides a modern luxury lodging option adjacent to the city's major sports, cultural and convention destinations."
The hotel's sophisticated design and prime location allows for guests and locals to easily navigate Charlotte's nearby entertainment district, restaurants and businesses, including the office tower under construction, via an open-air public plaza that fronts Tryon Street.
The well-appointed JW Marriott Charlotte will feature 381 modern guestrooms in addition to an expansive outdoor terrace, located on the fifth floor, which will house a swimming pool and contemporary bar with alfresco seating.
Additional standout amenities include the hotel's Spa by JW – JW Marriott's full-service luxury spa concept, a sizeable co-working executive lounge, and a bar with outdoor seating options that connects directly to the plaza and adjacent businesses. JW Marriott Charlotte's Lobby Lounge will incorporate outdoor seating for guests to dine directly on Stonewall Street. Soon-to-be-announced White Lodging-developed restaurant concepts will elevate dining experiences for all travelers.
With more than 22,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces, JW Marriott Charlotte includes the expansive outdoor terrace, a grand ballroom spanning more than 5,100 square feet, a junior ballroom totaling approximately 2,400 square feet and nearly 7,000 square feet of additional breakout space.
"We've had a clear vision about the type of mixed use community we wanted to create in the white hot center of uptown Charlotte from the start, and today's announcement completes that vision. The team at White Lodging is best-in-class, and we've enjoyed working side-by-side to get to this point," said Brian Leary, President of Commercial/Mixed Use for Crescent Communities. "The JW Marriott Charlotte's growth from our initial discussions is a response to the burgeoning cultural, commerce and convention business immediately next door."
