IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) will open its first hotel in the Northern part of Poland at the beginning of July: the Holiday Inn Gdansk – City Centre. The hotel will be opened in cooperation with IHG's long-standing development partner UBM Development AG and underscores IHG's rapid growth in the market. It marks the fifth hotel opening within the last 3 years.

Holiday Inn Gdansk – City Centre is located on the Granary Island, a unique urban concept assembled by the mouth of Motlawa river on the famous Wyspa Spichrzow. The modern building features 240 spacious guest rooms on seven floors, 5 conference rooms, a 24/7 gym, IHG's Open Lobby concept and a breath-taking Sky Bar. It is centrally located and in close proximity to the city's most iconic historical landmarks.

Holiday Inn Gdansk – City Centre is the 53rd hotel developed by UBM Development AG. Based on a Forward Purchase Agreement the hotel was sold to Union Investment in January 2018 and will be fully integrated in Union Investment's portfolio in the third quarter. The property will be managed by IHG. The hotel provides approximately 60 permanent full-time jobs and additional seasonal employment opportunities.

Karin Sheppard, Managing Director, Europe, says: "We are very excited to open Holiday Inn Gdansk – City Centre, the first IHG hotel not just in the city of Gdansk but in the whole Northern part of the country. Thanks to its unique location within the city, conference space and dining options, this hotel will have a big impact in the growing economy of Gdansk, providing true hospitality to business and leisure travellers alike.Poland has been a very important market for us in Europe and a market with a great success story. It has the eight largest economy in the European Union with a rapidly growing hotel industry. In UBM we have a great development partner who sees just as much potential in the market as we do."

Thomas G. Winkler, CEO UBM Development, commented: "With Holiday Inn Gdansk – City Centre we have developed our 53rd hotel, effectively underpinning our position as leading hotel developer in Europe."

Martin Löcker, COO UBM Development, added: "Gdansk already marks the 16th hotel project that we developed together with IHG. Over the years, UBM and IHG have built a strong partnership when it comes to developing hotels all over Europe."

IHG currently has 11* hotels open in Poland across the brands InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo. By 2021, an additional 17 hotels will open their doors, effectively tripling IHG's system size in the country and expanding the brand portfolio by two additional brands: Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites.
