Hilton (NYSE: HLT) today announced that the company entered into a management agreement with Ikeda Hotel Management Co., Ltd. to open DoubleTree by Hilton Toyama in 2022. This is the first property for Hilton in the Hokuriku region, located in northwest Japan.

Toyama is well connected with various popular day trip destinations, including the Kurobe Alpine route, famous for massive snow walls, the traditional villages of Shirakawago and Gokayama, and the Noto Peninsula. Thanks to the Hokuriku Shinkansen (bullet train), connecting Tokyo with Toyama in about two hours, Hilton sees an opportunity to capture growing demand from international travelers.

“We are thrilled to conclude this agreement between Hilton and Ikeda Hotel Management,” said Guy Phillips, Senior Vice President, Development, Asia & Australasia, Hilton. “We see a growing demand from international travelers in Toyama and believe that DoubleTree by Hilton will be ideally suited to serve business and leisure demand in the market.”

“We are delighted to announce our first property in the Hokuriku region of Japan during our 100th anniversary year,” said Timothy Soper, Vice President, Operations, Japan, Korea, and Micronesia. "DoubleTree by Hilton is a fast-growing global portfolio, with more than 565 properties in 47 countries around the world. We currently operate three DoubleTree hotels in Okinawa, with the DoubleTree by Hilton Toyama set to become the first on the main island of Japan. We look forward to welcoming guests in Toyama with our signature hospitality and famous, warm DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie.”

The new 201-room hotel will offer guest facilities, including a restaurant, bar, function/meeting space, public bath, and fitness area. Located in front of Toyama Station, the hotel is also within close proximity to government offices and major tourist attractions.

“It is an honor to develop the first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in the Hokuriku region with Hilton,” said Masatomo Ikeda, CEO of Ikeda Hotel Management Co., Ltd. “We would like to welcome guests from all over the world to DoubleTree by Hilton Toyama, which represents a new symbol of our city, located in front of Toyama Station. The new hotel will offer great value through Hilton’s well-established global network, and we believe it will contribute to the local economy by stimulating local tourism demand, creating job opportunities, and by collaborating with local companies.”
