The hotel group has announced the recently upgraded Cumberland hotel in central London as the flagship property for the Guoman brand, which is set to spread globally.
Guoman hotels will feature state-of-the-art technology and attract the upmarket business and leisure sector, according to Thistle. Other luxurious touches will include a lavish bed, shower and television system.
There will also be a focus on meetings and conferences, such as at the Cumberland, where 26 multifunctional meeting rooms connect to a central eating area called “Market Place” where meals are served from show kitchens.
Food is another focus. Celebrity chef Gary Rhodes has been enlisted to oversee the menu at the Cumberland’s brasserie and fine dining restaurants.
In order to grow the brand Thistle intends to upgrade some existing properties in the UK and launch an “ambitious acquisition strategy” abroad. A spokeswoman for the company told TravelMole it had not yet decided which Thistle’s were getting an upgrade, except to say it would be the group’s “key properties”, and added that Thistle had also not yet decided on global locations for the Guoman brand.
