Over 630 Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) members and other hospitality industry professionals recently gathered for HFTP's 61st Annual Convention & Tradeshow. The convention was held October 16 – 19 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. Attendees celebrated the association's successful year with a convention full of topic focused education sessions, numerous networking opportunities and access to leading industry suppliers at the tradeshow.
“The Annual Convention offers a sense of unity among attendees and the unique opportunity to network with other professionals,” said Frank Wolfe, CAE, CEO of HFTP. “This conference is a glimpse into the whole package that HFTP can offer an individual in the industry.”
The education sessions were presented by experts from all segments of the hospitality industry. The three general sessions covered positive relationship power, facing conflicting demands in an unforgiving business environment and reaching your full potential. The concurrent education sessions allowed attendees to discuss hot industry topics like fraud, affordable care act, PCI compliance, data security, workplace generations and more.
With a Welcome Reception and Exhibits on opening night, special off-site social event and the elegant President's Evening, attendees had the opportunity to network and socialize throughout the convention with colleagues and vendors. Meanwhile, the tradeshow featured exhibitors representing a variety of hospitality products and services as well as the new version of Golf20X, featuring the cutting edge in golf related technologies.
The Annual Convention was also a time for recognition of individuals and chapters. Joseph A. McInerney, CHA, president and CEO of McInerney Hospitality International, LLC, was awarded the Paragon Award for his support of HFTP. Shareef Fahmy, CHAE, income auditor for the Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, was honored as the CHAE of the Year for scoring the highest on the CHAE exam in the past year.
HFTP also awarded the Chapters of the Year. The winners, formatted with three tiers of winners based on number of members, included the Pittsburgh Chapter (1-35 members), Southern Alberta Chapter (36-70 members) and Greater Puget Sound Chapter (71+ members). New this year, the Student Chapter of the Year Award was awarded to the University of Houston Cougar Chapter for its achievements over the past year.
