Hilton (HLT:NYSE) signed a management agreement with TAFBB Business PLC to open DoubleTree by Hilton Addis Ababa Airport.
"Hilton has had a presence in Ethiopia for almost 50 years and we are delighted to have signed the country's first DoubleTree by Hilton property," said Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton. "As the capital of Ethiopia and the location of the African Union's headquarters, Addis Ababa is an important East African hub. Hilton has an existing hotel in the city centre, and we are now pleased to have signed this hotel near the international airport."
The hotel will be located just one kilometer from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, the base for Ethiopian Airlines. The airline has a vast network, offering flights to more than 50 regional destinations as well as to international destinations in Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. The hotel will be well placed for guests who want to stay in close proximity to the airport, and will offer an airport shuttle service. DoubleTree by Hilton Addis Ababa Airport will also be near the African Union Conference Hall, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and several embassies. In addition, the Millennium Hall, a major event venue, will be just steps from the hotel.
"We are very pleased to have partnered with Hilton to open this upscale hotel. The hotel is ideally located near Addis Ababa Bole International Airport which connects Africa to the rest of the world. DoubleTree by Hilton is a leading brand globally and we look forward to bringing the brand to Addis Ababa, the world's third biggest diplomatic city and a capital city of Africa." said Teka Asfaw Tesema, the principal shareholder of TAFBB Business PLC, represented by Fisseha Asres during the negotiation of the project.
The 106 guest-room hotel will feature a range of dining options including an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby lounge and a grab and go outlet. The hotel will also offer a multi-purpose hall, meeting rooms, a business centre and a fitness centre.
"We are pleased to have added Ethiopia to our portfolio of destinations with the signing of DoubleTree by Hilton Addis Ababa Airport," said Dianna Vaughan, senior vice president and global head, DoubleTree by Hilton. "We look forward to welcoming travelers to Ethiopia with DoubleTree by Hilton's unique style of hospitality which begins with our signature, warm DoubleTree cookie upon arrival and continues with excellent service throughout a guest's stay."
