Following a soft opening in May, the IntercityHotel Duisburg yesterday staged its formal opening ceremony. Extending over six floors, the IntercityHotel Duisburg houses a total of 176 rooms. These include 95 Business Rooms and 79 Business Plus Rooms. There are also two special disabled-accessible rooms.

The hotel's gastronomic offerings comprise a restaurant and a bar, whilst four events rooms are able to accommodate up to 200 conference guests. Interior design bears the characteristic signature of Italian architect Matteo Thun. Development partner for the new build project was the B&L Group. As far as transport links are concerned, the IntercityHotel Duisburg is conveniently positioned right next to the city's main railway station. This location also ensures swift access to the trade fair centres of Essen and Düsseldorf and to Düsseldorf Airport itself.

The opening ceremony was attended by more than 150 guests. In his address, Duisburg's Mayor Sören Link expressed his enthusiasm at the establishment of an IntercityHotel in the city. Harry Koch, Authorised Officer at the B&L Group, also expressed his pleasure at the successful conclusion of yet another cooperation agreement with Deutsche Hospitality.

The B&L Group and Deutsche Hospitality as umbrella brand of IntercityHotel GmbH have now executed a total of six hotel projects together. COO Thomas Willms used his speech to emphasise from the perspective of Deutsche Hospitality the development the brand has achieved. "IntercityHotel is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. However, thanks to the new design produced by Matteo Thun, it is more modern than ever. Digitalisation is also making its presence felt via the IntercityHotel App, which enables guests to use their smart phone to check in, check out and open the door to their room. The further development of the brand was a courageous step for our hotel company, but it is a move which has certainly paid off."

One of the highlights of the evening came as Thomas Willms marked the 30th anniversary of IntercityHotel GmbH by handing over a €30,000 donation to ex-professional footballer Christoph Metzelder to benefit the foundation that bears his name. Mr. Metzelder was delighted that the company had turned its thoughts to the socially disadvantaged inhabitants of Duisburg on the occasion of an opening ceremony event and promised that the money would be used to support integration and social projects in the city.

A press conference to mark the 30th anniversary of the IntercityHotel brand will be held in Frankfurt on Wednesday, 13 September.
