RIU Hotels & Resorts has just added a new hotel to the Riu Plaza brand in the United States through the acquisition of an establishment in the city of San Francisco. Riu Plaza Fisherman's Warf is located at 2500 Mason Street, in the heart of the most famous tourist neighbourhood of the city, a short stroll from the famous Pier 39, North beach, China Town and where the ferries depart towards the celebrated Alcatraz Island.

"This project is great news for RIU and for the consolidation of our line of Riu Plaza urban hotels. San Francisco is a great city with a very competitive hotel market and this acquisition places us in one of the best neighbourhoods with a quality product that fits perfectly with our business strategy. Our objective is to attract mainly European and Latin American holiday makers, who until now have found it hard to visit the city due to the lack of availability. Furthermore, it will help us secure our marketing in Asia, as it is a very popular destination there", explains Luis Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts.

After completing the final formalities of the operation, the hotel, which operates under the Sheraton brand and is owned by the ACRON Group -a company specialising in real estate investments based in Zurich, Switzerland-, will become part of the RIU chain on 12 November. Thanks to a recent complete refurbishment, the hotel will only need the incorporation of the Riu Plaza brand image given that the areas and services already comply with the chain's quality standards.

The new Riu Plaza Fisherman's Wharf has 531 rooms, a bar and restaurant, 11 meeting rooms and an executive room with exclusive services for its business guests, which in the RIU Hotel will become the Crown Level Lounge. The hotel will receive mainly guests visiting the city for pleasure, but also business guests and those attending large conventions. The location is excellent for all of them because, in addition to being very close to the tourist attractions, guests can reach the financial district on foot within minutes and it is a short tram ride from Union Square, renowned for its stores and art galleries.

This hotel is the eighth of the Riu Plaza urban line and the third in the United States. RIU is currently present in the following cities: Panama, Guadalajara (Mexico), Miami, New York, Berlin, Dublin and Madrid. Furthermore, there is an ambitious expansion plan with projects in Toronto and London, as well as New York, where a second property is being constructed.
